Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Maybe I'm the last person to discover this, but I have just had a potentially game changing revelation.

I love the retro feel of the fonts, but when trying to do serious programming on the CMM2, I felt the large text size in the editor was a bit restrictive. It echoes back to the days when we were using CRT's, but modern LCD's can handle much higher resolution.

The command line entry "OPTION DEFAULT MODE n" allows you to change the resolution of the editor. The default 800x600 is a bit chunky on a 24" monitor, so I bumped it up to mode 16 (1920x1080). However, although it rendered the fonts beautifully, they were even larger (i.e. less text on the screen). See comparison below.

I thought nothing of it and moved on. After all it was a minor gripe with an excellent machine that I love.

But, when trawling through the manual again I came across the command line "OPTION EDIT FONT SMALL | NORMAL | MEDIUM | LARGE| VERY LARGE".

It turns out that when you default to edit mode 16, the CMM2 sets the font size to VERY LARGE.

Using OPTION EDIT FONT NORMAL reduces the text size right down about the same size as a modern Windows programming font size, meaning you can fit an awful lot more text on the screen. It is perfectly readable on a modern LCD.

I've thrown together a comparison (below) on how much extra real-estate you get on your screen with the various font sizes. The name of each font points to where the bottom of the text editor screen is (at that font size on Mode 16).
Note: Although this is for the 2nd Generation CMM2, other screen resolutions are available for the 1st Gen that will also increase your usability.

Sorry for wasting your time if you already knew this - but this is a huge discovery for me. I've been getting back into CMM2 programming - and this is going to make my life so much easier.

I knew that there was a command somewhere for this.
Thanks.
