Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

I have downloaded MMEdit (portable) for my XP machine but I have never used the Pico on XP. Device manager just shows "Pico ?" |

"Is Windows XP still usable in 2024? Yes, in fact, they are. According to StatCounter, as of March 2024, 0.39% of desktops are still running Windows XP. Let's do a little math. Microsoft claims there are 1.4 billion Windows PCs in the world, so that means we still have not quite 5.5 million XP computers up and running somewhere" |

I use a Panasonic Toughbook CF18 on the plant-floor and it has been rock-solid for years. Very low-powered and I didn't wanna risk trying to install W7. |

You have to install drivers for the pico USB https://forums.raspberrypi.com/viewtopic.php?t=300053 or use a USB-TTL that has XP drivers and configure a serial console port on the pico. You won't be able to update MMMBasic firmware but your code updates are OK through the console oprt. Jim VK7JH MMedit MMBasic Help |

When I had my low-power FM radio station, I used XP to play all the music. It was perfect for that, and rock-solid. It was standalone - never connected to the network or the internet, but as a standalone music player just running that software and nothing else, it was pretty much bulletproof. Ran 24/7/365 for the several years I had that radio station on-air, and never gave any trouble. So, still useful for certain things! Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

to answer Michael's initial question, download Zadig XP version 2.2 from here: https://zadig.akeo.ie/downloads/ and then follow these slides: note in the second slide to select USB Serial (CDC) in the dropdown. cheers, rob :-) Edited 2024-10-25 12:49 by robert.rozee |
