Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Interesting article. I remember when Quake first came out, 1994 I think, so its 30 years old now. They still release updates for the game, currently the latest version is dated 2022, just a few more game options and a few more polygons on the characters, but still very much the same game. And have to admit, I play it often, almost daily, usually Horde mode or multiplayer. Its just simple, fast, no fuss, no inventory management, just pickups / shoot / survive and a lot of running. I loved Quake back in the 90's. It was very popular at lunchtime in the company I worked for. But later on I got hooked on Unreal Tournament. Especially the later ones (2004?) where you could buy the Game of the Year version with hundreds of mods for $10. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xzPLuxTSbwI Because it needed such a low spec computer to run it was easy to rig up 4 machines in the house and I used to have an absolute blast playing with my daughters. Again, nice and simple game play, vehicles and a seemingly limitless number of levels. And then of course there's the redeemer, a single shot mini nuke gun that can wipe out half the map - absolutely panic inducing when you hear somebody pick that up! Considering it's 20 years old, I think it still looks pretty good. |

Back around the time Quake First came out I was an IT Mgr. for a Software Maintenance and Development company, and on Friday nights and Saturdays the programmers were big on "Network Tests" as if there was something wrong with my Network! The Owner was Big on when it was a good week, Sending me Downstairs to Buy us Beer and Order Pizza on the company! I generally am a Huge ANTI Idiot Gamer, but these tests were fun :) I may be Vulgar, but , while I'm poor, I'm Industrious, Honest, and trustworthy! I Know my Place |

I played Quake just enough to check it out. But I finished the entire Doom game set on Ultra-Violent. And Quake and Doom had the same game engine. |

I have played a bit of Quake some years ago, last one I had a go at was Quake 4, tried Doom 3, then after that most of these ended up on the Steam platform, that ended all game play for me, never bought anything since neither did many others. I thought someone was working on this a while back, can't remember, a forum member from Brazil I think, please correct me if I'm wrong. Cheers Aaron Off The Grid |
