Until recently I just changed the rechargeable batteries more often than replaced alkaline ones and cursed those appliances, like alarm clocks or AC remote that had to have always reset time and date.

Toiled with an idea of connecting to external power while batteries were taken out and replaced with charged ones.

Well, I did it several times and it worked sort of OK, except few times when accidentally temporary set up was disconnected, so time and date had to be set up again.

This led me to another idea of recharging batteries without taking them out of units.

Since I don't have proper bench charger, I did it this way:
In case of appliance with 2 batteries I charged them with 3 rechargeable batteries

and in case of 3 in appliance I charged them up with 4 batteries.

I charged them for half an hour and it worked.
Batteries used for charging were quite down and batteries charged were close to 1.35V

Not scientific, but charged batteries did not get hot and from what I read about them, heat is the biggest killer of rechargeable batteries.

I know, nothing special, but for me quite an improvement (time saver), especially that most of my little gadgets have rechargeable batteries inside.

I kind of started to like this idea to the point, that I started gradually fitting gadgets with easy access points to recharge batteries on the go.

Remote for AirCon got two tiny holes drilled, so I can poke + and - wires to connect at the right point.
For some reason places that I want to access are covered with plastic.

One clock I soldered with short wires, for easy access to my recharging alligator clips.

I also thought about banana system, but not every device gives luxury of so much room to fit one with.

Suppose can have a look around the web to see how others solved this little problem.
