An interesting OZ "simple" discovery that may have much potential also outside its proposed use, am thinking perhaps as a water pre filter. We have touched on use of radio frequency as a space propulsion source, this is use of water wave frequency to bring oil spills back to wave source for clean up.

Looks interesting for water without currents and suppose the area should be free from wind too.

Yes water currents and wind would throw a spanner in the works, will be interesting to follow as it seems to have excited the science community somewhat, judging by the "hits" on the internet. Some are interpreting this "discovery" as a step in the direction of developing tractor beams. Sort of lock on Scotty, we`ll tow you home.
Jokes aside who knows where it will go and what practical applications may come about from this and the many other discoveries coming from the worlds think tanks. The more we know the more we realise how much we don`t know.Edited by norcold 2014-08-14

I can imagine flow on effect in home aquarium to skim the surface, possibly indoor swimming pools.
Maybe even some application in flocculation to separate floating precious things from the rest.

Even without extra applications scientists will be busy to work out why it works.

Hope I am not wrong, but I understand that scientists know it works, but don’t know yet why.

It seems that is the way with a lot of discoveries ie. something is found to work, than the inquisitive mind asks why? When one reads quotes from geniuses they have a similar belief, their minds are always questioning collective beliefs. I guess that is the basis of good science and why big gains throughout history were made by individuals.
