Sorry, Dr Google is no help. Manual transfer switch, max 20Amps, 240VAC, 2 poles in from main, 2 poles in from gen, 2 poles out to load. Google talks of 100 Amps and above, automatic ones, 6 circuits, etc., all the stuff I do not want. Any brand/model no. + Oz supplier would be appreciated. It dont matter diddly squat if the switch is over rated for the job, just dont under rate the switch. So a 100 amp switch is more than suitable with a over rating. Just make sure your transfer switch is a "break before make" switch. Most switches like this have a Off point in the middle, ON - OFF - ON. A standard switch use for electric hot water for "Day / Night" control is mormally like this and about what you want. As the use of such a switch is normally to switch between "J" tariff or "M" tariff for water heating, so they have a Off period in the middle. Pete. Sometimes it just works |

I use a switch like this switch in my meter box to select 240V power from stand alone inverter or grid. You can get these switches made up for any configuration. I did not buy mine from RS electronics as they are way too expensive there. Find a local supplier for Kraus & Naimer rotary switches and have one assembled to your requirements. Klaus |

Thanks Tinker and Downwind. Re 100Amps: Being a pensioner (whinge, whinge!) I look at it that way, if the gen is only 3000W, then 20Amps is cheaper and good enough. The rotary one looks OK and is a panel mount one, perhaps there is such a thing as a DIN-rail mounted one available somewhere. Thanks Downwind. Probably used the wrong search terms like Generator changeover switch or Generator transfer switch and a short fuse on my part does not help either; sorry! As I need to break before make two poles (active, neutral) I will persist and try to find a cheap two-pole switch, like the day/night switch from before. Found it! Whirlpool/grid gave me the answer by listing the Oz/NZ standard for non-permanent connection of gen with a diagram how to connect the break-before-make switch, etc. and now one can talk to the sparkie with confidence.
