Have anyone noticed just how crap the humble match has become, once they would strike and work every time, now they are borderline if they work at all, thats if the stick dont break in trying. For a long time now even the striker on the box has gone from a solid area to a hash pattern, and that is often next to useless on one side or the other. It would seem the simple things in life are also becoming a trial and error process of if it works or not, i'm not sure when the humble match stick was invented, but i think its got worse over time, well at least it has in my lifetime. There use to be 52 matches per box and i also have not checked if the matchbox quantity has been downsized in recent times. I was just annoyed with needing to use 4 matches to light the fire. Although i do appreciate the humour. Perhaps you dont use matches. Its worth (not) you buying a box and see how many matches it takes to light your kero lanten. If it works first time you are lucky, but try a few times and you will see what the complaint is about. Pete. Sometimes it just works |

I find the stick is much narrower than it once was, I tend to break them as I strike. It would all be down to cost cutting and keeping the shareholders happy. Making the stick 20% thinner means you get 6 sticks instead of 5 from the same material. Same would apply to the strike strip. So yeah I agree, matches are not what they used to be. As a side note, since I gave up smoking about 6 years ago, I now struggle to find a way to make fire! As a smoker I had lighters and matches everywhere, but since giving up they have slowly disappeared and now I need to hunt around for some way to make fire. Not related to matches but as it is a complaint it might pass Glenn's eagle eyes: WA will reduce the solar feed-in tariff from 40c to half. Headline in "The West Australian": "Solar Flare". Slater and Gordon might just get a class action going by having a look at the contractual wording. Isn't it typical for govs. and corporations to offer and use the "low-ingoing" trick? My SGIO car insurance doubled from year to year, the excise on LPG for cars was increased after the gov. had an established market of converted vehicles, etc. Good news: Germany will try to convert water to hydrogen via any excess renewable energy and then pump the hydrogen into their gas pipeline network, let's hope it works more efficiently compared to other tricks, such as fancy sodium (?) batteries. Not so good news: Voice on car GPS: "An accident has caused a delay between Rochester and cubic meter!". Should have been spoken as "M3"! I feel much better now! sorry download - didn't mean to be rude. my bad. One of the options google image search turned up was two naked dudes trying to light a fire that way - so it could have been worse. Yeah, i find them pretty bad these days.. half all the red stuff comes off as soon as you try and strike them, the other half they just snap. I like the longer red heads ones - they tend to be thicker and the red stuff stays on. |
