Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Thought I'd put up my latest bit of handywork
A diesel waterpump that supplies cattle water troughs started life with a windup clockwork timer, that ran for many years but finally gave up the ghost
Searched for repair or replacement timer- no clockwork ones exist anymore, and all the modern timers needed an injector pump with inbuilt solenoid to turn the motor off- this old beast has a bowen cable that has to be physically pulled to stop it... replacement injectopr pump not available and replacement motor in the 1000's... hmmm....

One of the earlier 'thinking it out circuit diagrams

fast forward a few days, a lot of swearing, crimping, soldering, drilling etc and its taking shape

More insides

The linear actuator that was the heart of the build- thanks to Neil for making the cable 'grabber' it started off as a simple bolt, he drilled down the center, then drilled a cross hole to fit the cable into, then tapped it to fit the holding screw at the top...., then as it has to swivel, made up the nut so it could rotate on the actuator bar, which also converts the actuator throw length to the cable throw length....

Rip out all the rat eaten and heavily modded original wiring and start again from scratch

Pump had been damaged before because you had to follow 'the procedure' to get it going- open tap to reduce pump pressure, start engine, let it build up speed, close tap- no longer, timer does it all automagically

All fitted up and running...

Some of these farmers aint so bright, follow the destructions....

It has several features that the old timer didnt have, like low oil cutoff for the motor, and you only have to make one trip per refill of the tanks (usually every few days) instead of two, because the old clockwork timer stopped the diesel, but left its 'ignition' turned on for the alternator, flattening the battery if you didnt make the second trip down to turn it off
