G'day Guy's,
For a project I'm doing I need a heating source so decided to have a bit of fun with some copper and have a go at making my own burner. Had to trial a few ways to get the air/fuel ratio sorted so a clean burn can happen.

Anyway for the input and gas nozzle I just used a 1/8" to 1/4" bspt fitting, as as the internal hole is a tad under 5mm a M6 taper tap soon tapped the thread. For the nozzle I just use a M6 sockethead cap screw and drilled a 0.7mm hole thru. Now to mount it I used some 3mm brass plate where I tapped a 1/8" bspt thread and hard soldered it onto the large frustum.

The burner ring is 3/8" copper tube with and OD of 60mm, this connects to a 3/8" to 3/4" frustum and then onto a 100mm length of 3/4". The input frustum is 3/4" to 1-1/2" X 1-1/2" long.

I also made a top cover which will aid if there is a blow back in the burner and it puts a finishing touch to the burner.

By "hard solder", do you mean silver solder?

G'day Guy's,
What I meant by hard solder is 45% silver solder and just for a laugh I'm on making a mini pot still that will produce a bottles worth of product. This will be good for trying out new wash's so rather than do a 30 litre wash a wash can be done in the 2 litre goon bottles.

Also it will be good for doing macerations where I'll steep the ingredients in some 40% for a few days and put some 90% in the thumper. This will bring up the abv and make a nice drop.

I showed a pic of the burner to my mate in Tasi and it was OK mate how much for one and how soon can you get one down to me. So below is a pic of the second one I've made. On the first run with it I'm 99% there with the burn but still have a hint of yellow flame in the burn. So a tad more filing on the slot thats under the 3/4" tube and it should do a nice clean burn.

I still need to clean this one up and solder some legs on also finish the top cover to prevent the burn back.

The next burner I'm going to make is a bigger one in the hope it can work better than that 3 ring burner I bought from bunnings for running my big still.

Hi Bryan.

Good stuff.

I suppose you get your name printed as "Brian" a fair bit. I occasionally get called "Bryan", particularly by people who have a Bryan in their family. Most common mis-spelling for me is "Brain" which I take as a compliment.
