Phone number marketing block

Do you get calls on your landline from tele marketing that drives you crazy.

Reclaim your number !!!

Here is how you stop them and it really works.

I have used it for some years now and would be unlucky to get 1 call a year, although charity's and surveys are permitted to call.

This is a phone number to the Government site to block marketing to your phone number, and not just any system to block your number, its monitored and really works.
It will take about a month to kick in but then the calls should stop

Phone this number "ON THE PHONE" you want to block the number to, you must use the same phone to make the call on you want to block the number for.

Call ....... 1300 792 958........... and follow the prompts, it takes about 20 seconds to do.

The block lasts for 8 years i think, so 20 seconds is not long for 8 years of piece.

There is also an option to put a marketing block on Fax numbers should you still own a fax machine.

Sorry to say its only for Australian phone numbers.

Hi Pete

It is a great thing but it is not always as effective as your experience. I've been using the Do Not Call Register since it was first available. I used to still get many calls, some from Australian sources but mostly from international. There was the 3:00am regular, a mobile from Kenya. It got so that I would leave the phone off the hook at night. I must have pissed them off sometime.

There were the Aussie calls selling siding for weatherboard houses (I had a brick one) and the solar panels (yes, I had them too). The internationals were mostly scammers flogging the Microsoft PC errors to be fixed (at my cost). I used to ask them if this worked for an Apple.

I seem to have stopped them all for the moment. I now have NBN fibre and no normal landline. I do have the Voice over IP equivalent with a localised number but unlisted in the White Pages directory.

The thing that really stopped the late night calls was a new phone system with a white listing for specified hours. If you weren't in my phones contact list as a "friendly" or family then the call would not ring but just proceed silently to the answering machine. That also blocked some family members who wouldn't provide their number when they called. They had to leave a message or call back in daylight hours.

You missed one big exclusion from the effects of the Do Not Call listing. The politicians allowed themselves an exemption.

Bob

Yeah we didn`t have total success with call blocking but when shifting out of town required a new landline and now have an unlisted number. That doesn`t stop all( probably 3/year) but they hang up bloody quick when you mention it is unlisted whether charity or telemarketing.
The answer machine is a good deterrent, just have to ensure people who you wish to speak with give you a chance to respond. I don`t answer phone unless I know who it is as a general rule.
We come from the land downunder.

voip number gets rid of them all.

I tried the Do not call register and it worked okay, but I still got a lot of charities calling.

Most were reasonably good about adding me to their own do not call register, but every now and again you'd get a complete t**ser thinking their a sales god and would start trying to guilt trip you because you don't want to talk to a charity. At that point you can try telling that while registered charities are exempt, companies working on behalf of charities on a for profit basis are not, and indicate the fine levels. Then ask for their companies ABN number, followed by their full name, address and date of birth (for their personal fine). scares the crap out of them, even if it isn't true.

anyway, far easier (and cheaper) to go with VOIP and a dial in number.

oh and tip if you have a optus pre-paid mobile plan and don't like the retarded promotions they keep calling you up for? You can register on an internal optus do not call register and they'll stop. until they forget in 3 months. treat them like telstra (i.e something nasty that should be flushed), ditch them, and go with somebody else. Most ISPs sell plans/pre-paids that are cheaper than tesloptavode. TPG is good, but on the expensive end now (still cheap compared to the big 3). havn't had a single call from them in over a year and a half.

The old saying .......... you can lead a horse to water, but cant make him drink.

Yes there is lots pf phone block services out there, and thus far no one has listed the services (phone numbers) they have tried that didnt work, this service actually works, and its free, so why would you not dial the number and log a block to your number, rather than quoting how the services dont work.

Yes i have tried a few too that dont work, then i was given this number (From telstra) and it works.

For some time now i pass it to customers i do work for, and they all tell me it works a treat, so until you dial the number given i doubt you can past judgment on the service (number) i list.

Even charity's seem to respect it and i only get the odd few, rather than the daily bombardment of calls.

Do you think i would bother to post this information if it was not tried and tested, try it yourself and report back in 8 weeks on the results, as it can take that long to filter through to the masses with your number, as the listing only goes out monthly so give an extra month for the slow learners to catch up, it will work!!!

Pete.

You obviously don't know that the number you quoted is just one way to get on to the Do Not Call Register also known as the DNCR. That number is featured twice on the previous linked page. However, why stuff around using a phone number to get registered when you can use the internet to do it faster and more effectively with an email acknowledgement.

I was on the register from day one, the 1st of May 2007.

Here is a partial quote from the DNCR web site FAQs
3. Will registering my number stop scam calls?

No, putting your number on the Do Not Call Register will not stop scam calls to that phone number.
Not everyone has found the DNCR to be as effective as you have but that is no call for you to accuse others of not being responsive to or refuting your suggestions. We were there earlier and better informed than yourself.

The DNCR is just one tool for dealing with unwanted phone calls. There are many others and their effectiveness depends on individual circumstances. Many people find a combination of tools and actions are necessary to get the best result.

I did try it Pete, and it was a good start. Stopped most of the regular sales droids. But if I was home from work for some reason (sick or leave) I'd still get at least one call every single day from some charity or around election time a couple of politicians (instant guaranteed no vote for them btw).

When your trying to catch up with sleep, the last thing you want is for some feckless halfwit trying to push you into donating to the lifeguards or blind society (worst two for repeat offences).

Since getting the voip number I've had zero calls from sales droids. I have been very very careful with it though. No large company has been given that number, ever. No charity organisation has been given that number. It doesn't get entered as the contact number for delivery of packages either (notice how they never call you on that number anyway? even if the delivery hasn't gone as planned? so what do they need it for?).
