Hi all,
I have a 100 ah deep cycle battery in a box at the wind mill and from this I have wiring running about 15m to the kids house. What I am planing to do is run some wiring about 20m to the shed in the oposit direction to the kids house.
What I am not sure about is adding an extra battery into the system. I would like to add an extra battery in the shed.
Should all the batterys in a system be kept together, or can you have placed seperatly at diferent points.

You can locate batteries remotely but how well they load share will depend onj the resistance in the wiring.

Hi Dean,
I've been watching this post expecting a sparky or two to ellaborate.I'm wondering if you could run parrallel circiuts from the mill to each battery,maintaining the voltage but halving the amperage to the seperate battery's.The drop in amperage to each battery may not prove adequate.I don't know the total amps you have?Cheers Rastus

If you are not too concerned about how evenly they discharge or charge then I can't see how there would be a problem.

If you set a lower limit for discharge, one battery might get there before the other and it's time to shed load or disconnect that battery. If they charge unequally, when one battery starts to float then the charge just goes into the less charged cell.

I think the more damaging issue is when one cell in a battery doesn't charge and discharge at the same rate as the others. Because you can't get to it! Search for "equalisation".

With two separate batteries you have control over them.

Hi all,
If I build up a battery bank down the track I would like for them to go into the shed, as hopfully when I start to get a bit more power out of the mills I want to try setting up a dump load that will heat a bit of water. I plan to build a solar hot water collecter on the shed roof and I may be able to give this a bit of a boost with the dump load, the shed is very close to the corner of the house where our existing hot water service is. This is my long term plan, it will take a while but if I keep pluging away at it I will get there.
The wiring will form a T intersection at the base of the mill and the wiring from the new mill will feed into this point as well so I thought it may be a good idear to keep one battery at this point.
I will get hold of some decent size wire to run between this battery and the batterys in the shed.
