I am mounting a small Lister 3.5HP @1500 rpm onto a concrete block, I have seen stationary engines with a hardwood block between engine base and concrete block and some without. I can only guess it provides a little dampening and or as is mostly the case the flywheel projects below the base and the hardwood block represents a spacer. Any opinions on this point? I've heard if you mount a diesel, especially a single cylnder, on concrete, the vibration can travel a long way. If you house/shed is on/near the concrete pad, then the whole building becomes a sounding board. Wood blocks would help, but rubber would be better. Got any old tires you can cut up? windlight. Hi, In addition to what Glen has suggested There is a problem with condensation causing rust or corrosion, the wood barrier is an insulator to prevent electrolysis with the earth.
