Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Recently bought a cheap Solar Irradiance Meter (Pyranometer), to play about with.

Have also been playing with measuring the energy with a garden light solar panel shorted with a 10 Ohm resistor.

Found it's fairly easy to set things to get 1000mV across the resistor when the Solar meter reads 1000 Watts/mē.

A simple calc of P=Vē/R x 10,000 will give me a reasonably rough estimation of watts per square metre from the solar cell.

The 1 volt output being read is an ideal level to me read into a Micro, & used in the logic of any solar based controller project.

Cheers
