Just before Xmas we had a solar aray installed, and after Xmas it was inspected and given the OK. The inspector told me that it would take about 5 weeks for a new meter to be installed and not to switch it on unles we can use the power as the meter we have will charge us for exporting as if we were importing.
It has been six weeks now, so im wondering how long other people have waited for meter instalations or is it just a problem in our area.

Dean, We had our panels fitted on 23rd December 2010 and meter fitted and connected on 24th Dec. I must admit that I consider myself very lucky to have it done so close to Xmas.
The chap that did the meter was an accredited level 2 electrician who was approved by the local electricity suppliers and lived only about 40 k's away.
Even more surprisingly lucky as when he arrived to do the job and checked what he needed to complete the job and found that he'd neglected to restock his truck with one of the required switch/breaker housings. He informed me that he would have to postpone my connection until after the Xmas break and left, only to return later in the day when to his surprise (and mine) he found out that Haymans Electrical Supplies had opened a new store near me and he'd purchased the required gear, and completed the job.
The mob who did the panel installation lined him up for me and all was organised by them. I would be contacting your installers and getting them to hurry things along as that seems a long time to be waiting.

Cheers, Pete.
Pete

Thanks Pete i have heard that in some cases it can take a long time. i think you may have been one of the lucky ones. You are right i think it is time to get on the phone and start making some noise as its nearly 7 weeks now.

A week ago we finaly got our meter instaled and we are all switched on. It is a 1.5 kw system and for the first week we have had a daily output of 8-9 KWh and of this we have been able to feed around 5 kwh back into the grid so with our feed back rate if i have calculated correctly we should have had a week of free power, but i will have to wait untill the bill comes in to conferm this. Very impressed with solar power so far.

All the best Dean.
