Hi readers,

I have just heard on the vine of a case of some GTI solar panels being stolen.

It seems as though the crooks have become aware of the value of these panels, and the relative ease of removal with some of the clip systems. These apparently had the pentagon drive screw security screws.

Would be interesting if any other readers have heard similar things.

Gordon.

I had an array stolen a couple of years ago. They turned up with spanners, allen keys, vice-grips or similar, and cutters. Took the whole lot - frames and all. Left a cable sticking out the ground, and the pole they were mounted on.

Coppers were as usual, completely disinterested, pathetic, incompetent fools.

(My new stuff is mounted such that it's very difficult to get anything apart, and the alarm will have detected the attempt to disassemble anything. I won't bother calling the cops, and nobody will ever find a body)

Kind of difficult to get away with as providers like SP Ausnet wont let you connect to the grid without panel serial numbers!

-wouldnt worry me if mine went, I'll have 5.2KW of German panels thanks.
(insurance -listed on my policy 5.2KW)

Will cost them about $24K
Excess is pretty cheap.

not like I cant prove they were there, thanks nearmap!Edited by KarlJ 2010-12-12

Have you thought about adopting a pet?
That is the best insurance I have ever bought. They don't have to be mean, just big.
My dog loves the grandkids.

Hi All

I think it would cost more to feed the dog (once you run out of grandkids) than to replace the panels, or preferably insure them.

All the best

Your panels will be safe. Just as mentioned.
