Playing about with a 5kW Hybrid in the shed ATM. Have 6 250W panels connected in the yard; 9 more stacked against the fence. Just wondering how best to treat the batteries I have attached to it. ATM I've got 12 Panasonic LC-P1220P's connected to provide 48V. Not a real lot of capacity to do anything with, so wondering how deep I should cycle them. Just down to 75%, or not even that low? Batteries are all used; from a set of 3kV UPS's that all get a routine battery change every 2 years. They would have all went into service at about the same date, give or take a few days. 12 @ 20Ah would be 2.88kWh storage at the 20h rate, but it's probably more realistic to look at the 3 hour rating which is 15Ah. Found this data sheet. Phil. 2017-12-25_074042_Panasonic_LC-P1220P.pdf |

3 strings will give 45-60ah, so good for LED lights and some form of intermittent stereo system/radio use overnight I would say. 10-15ah overnight or 5-10ah for 3 hours early evening. Both useages draw the batteried down to about about 80% capacity. These sort of batteries are designed for long float times and heavy short term draw to power the UPS units, daily use may or may not effect them. Time will tell. Will you using an inverter for 240v (inverter loss) or a voltage reducer for 12v gear (again a small loss). There are many good 240v LED lights that draw 3w, I use them in my house. Also a good range of 12v lights and radios etc. Mark |
