Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi Boppa,
Yes I realise that convention says that I should say 16 watthours for 12 hours rather than 200 watts overnight.

BUT
when electricity used directly from panels can cost as low as 7 cents per kwh and electricity from batteries can cost anything from 45 cents to $2 per kwh, the timing of electricity usage makes a huge difference to our choices.

I have tried a dozen different ways to try and get that concept into peoples heads and I have found that splitting 24 hours into night and day is the only way that they wrap their minds around it.

I even tried sending one lady a pretend voucher that said,

SALE! ELECTRICITY IS FREE BETWEEN 11 AND 3 EVERY DAY TILL WINTER STARTS.

I'm confused, no wait... maybe I'm not...

I know the feeling, my mothers house has panels on it, but as she is into minimal energy usage, she used to wait until after 5pm to turn on the aircon, because `it doesnt work as hard as when its hot outside'

Despite repeated attempts to explain that she is actually better off running the aircon when the sun is shining, so the panels provide the power, she is steadfast in waiting until its after dark before turning the aircon on, thus it actually costs her more as she is now drawing from the grid
Even showing her the numbers on the meters doesnt help, she just does it her way

Oh well

Does she also have windows open because she needs fresh air? The two seem to go together.
