hi all,

have a question on what batt bank to setup as i have two sets of batt types at my disposal.

currently have 12 x 2 volt blocks (24v) each block is a sonnenshien A602/250 280Ah C10 running. These batts were ex surplus. storage/charge history unknown...

the other option i have is 4 x 12v Ex mobile phone tower power backup
FIAMM 12FFT 100 12v 100Ah/10h to 1.8v/cell. roughly 2-3 years old and 6 months off charge.

so what would be a better option to setup?

12 x 2v blocks (24v)
or
4 x 12v blocks (series/parr) for 24V

have 1000Watt of solar and a soon to come MPPT trace regulator.
general pull on bank varies from 5 amps(24/7) to bursts of 20-30 amps when the two fridges and lights are on at night.
average pull on the bank would be 10 amps averaged over 24 hours? (guess??)

any more info that is needed?

I sat next to the buyer of TElstra batteries on a plane to intersolar last year.

They dont get turfed because they are great, they get turfed because high temps in said phone exchanges stuff them in a short space of time.

Go with the 2v sonnenschein batts more capacity too.

RE the TRace reg, i'd consider the next step which is victron.
800W will be typical from that array, gives 30A charge.

My experience with the EP gear (we sell them) is that if you have the coin
buy better and you'll get more yield.

MPPT is slow and often isnt the MPP.
