I saw this youtube video where the sun's rays were concentrated on the hot end of a stirling motor. The motor drove a generator and was putting out 10kw according to the video. Has anyone built anything similar to this?

Google "solar stirling" will bring up lots of results. Its a much more efficient process compared to plain old solar cells, so it will generate more power for a given area, and there are a few solar farms that use solar stirling collectors. But they need to track the sun very precisely, and have moving parts that will wear.

But for small scale, forget it. Compared to solar stirling, solar cells are cheap, have no moving parts, make no noise, and dont need to track the sun precisely.
