G'day all.
We have signed up to have solar power installed at home.
There are a couple of questions regarding the grid tie side of things.
1. I assume the inverter has some smarts, or even an "exciting" feed from the mains in order to synchronise the waveform of the inverter output to be the same timing as the mains? If it's out of phase, things will warm up.
2. To my way of thinking, in order to send a bit of current into the mains, that is excess to usage in the home, surely the output of the inverter has to be at a higher voltage than the mains itself in order to produce current to go in the right direction? (basic electricity theory)
3. I have GREAT trouble in accepting that anyone, especially a government, will allow you to get some income without some form of tax being demanded. I guess they are just waiting for everyone to go off grid before they hit us all.

1) probably some form of zero-crossing detector and I am sure a microprocessor is needed to control everything
2) for the impedances involved you probably only need the voltage to be a few millivolts higher than the mains voltage
3) Thought this topic was being hotly debated in your country, ie plans to scrap the Kyoto Protocol
