Well just decided yesterday to get anything to start with, so ordered 2 sets of 10m red/black pairs in 40mm; 40m total for $95.00 That & a 30m roll of 4mm twin, for another $80.00 inc post. That was around quarter past 3, so won't see it till post Christmas or new year. 10 minutes later one of the Sparkies I know rings, mentioned I was chasing some cable & he says he might have some old stuff if I slip straight out. 15 minutes out the road, & he's offering me some "scraps". TWO, 100m unused rolls of 6mm twin, designated scrap. Murphy's Law got me for about $175.00, 4:00PM got this in the boot, helping him dispose of trash. Phil.   |

Well I received my $175.00 of ebay stuff yesterday, not sure it will be of much use. Might sit on it for a while, but a bit inclined to just dump it to recoup some cost. This is what it is. I vaguely recall the guy saying that it's still fully approved, but there is something about not being able to claim RECs if it's used. Sounded a bit like bad red tape. Phil. |

I get the feeling the REC's scheme has become something of a wRECk, if you know what I mean... The solar installer a suburb over from me had a whole bunch of ex approved stuff for sale that no longer has REC approval, 15kw 3 phase gridlock inverters- had it at 149, sold the last one for 100 bucks... has to be worth more than that just in parts alone I would have thought Brand new, still in box, never been used, just over 12 months old Bunch of older 1kw and 3kw gridlockers, various brands, under 50 bucks each God I wish offgrid stuff was that cheap... |

Old Aerosharps turn into real nice off grid inverters and GTI's will work with them, add a regulator and you have a 300 plus Volt MPPT inverter that charges the batteries back through the off grid inverter. Combine that with secondhand panels and you can setup a off grid system with enough grunt to run anything you want to throw at it. If you can DIY and scrounge around you can save a lot. About a year ago I inquired about costs to setup and get CEC rebates etc. It was going to cost 3 to 4 times more than doing it all my self. Anyone like to add a few links for Go To online suppliers for general items? Isolators, Breakers, brackets etc. Finding trolling eBay can be a chore and L&H aren't that useful in the solar field locally. Thanks Phil. |

Yes, you can get some stuff either used or excess to the owner/contractor. I generally look through e-bay fairly regularly and sometimes see bits and pieces that would be handy . But , at 73, I'm getting a bit tired of be advernturist/looking for excitement,lol.? The metal recyclers are a good place to spend a half hour , if they let you ?. these days with insurance and work health and safety ,best of luck? I generally take a multimeter with me ,just a small pocket one . And allways take a bit of small change for that small odd thing --remember , some of these guys put that small change into a beer ... another good place for handy guys is house demolution places, thats where I got my solar panel mounting steel,at afraction of the steel merchant,s quote-and it was brand new and 20 foot lengths delivered for another $20. .
